Life is beautiful….isn’t it? I love photographing kids & families and we have had a very busy winter with baby, kids & family portraits in our studio. We are now getting into our busiest time of the year with portrait & wedding season as the weather warms up & summer is fast approaching. What a great month…from chilling in Muskoka to several visits to Toronto for work & play. All these images were taken on my iPhone using Instagram.

This is the wedding of Joey & Nimi who were married at their Toronto Gurdwara last summer. I have never photographed an Indian wedding before, so I was thrilled that Joey & Nimi placed their trust in me to document their wedding day! I love learning about different cultural & religious wedding traditions. This was the day of their wedding ceremony & they celebrated at a later date with a beautiful reception at the Copper Creek Golf Club which I will post next week.

I am so blessed that I found my true passion in life as a photographer & that I am  living my dream. I have always loved photography & while I was in photography school in Victoria at the Western Academy of Photography in 2002-2003, I truly developed my keen love of pure documentary & fine art photography. I always had a love for black & white street photography & was totally inspired by two of my favourite masters of documentary photography, Henri Cartier-Bresson & Manuel Alvarez Bravo. If you don’t know the work of these two brilliant photographers, I would definitely check them out. Their work has inspired generations of documentary photographers.

I am lucky enough to be able to live & breath documentary photography with all of the beautiful weddings that I have the honour of photographing each year. Weddings are the beginning of a beautiful journey. Weddings unite our families and friends to celebrate the beauty of our love. What I love most about weddings is the story. Each wedding is unique, each couple has their own story. I love to see the interaction between the bride & groom and their families & friends throughout the wedding day. It is the special moments that are shared, whether quietly in anticipation getting ready for the ceremony or shared with all who are there to celebrate with you that tell the story of your day. With my camera in hand, my heart & mind open to the spontaneity of the day, I quietly & unobtrusively document your story. My goal is to produce a collection of photographs that will truly capture the love, beauty and essence of your wedding day.

I love, love, love cherry blossoms & I was thrilled that my clients, Denzel & Shermaine, wanted to do their engagement session in High Park while the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. We were lucky to have a fairly nice day last Tuesday to capture some lovely portraits of this gorgeous couple! It was only about 12 degrees, so it was a little bit chilly, but these blossoms are only out for such a short time, so they toughed it out…and I am so glad they did, because I just love these engagement portraits!

Denzel & Shermaine are the sweetest couple. They are high school sweethearts! I am really looking forward to their wedding this July in Toronto!

Ron & Cheryl were married last September up at Taboo Resort in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Their beautiful Muskoka wedding was recently featured in Wedding Dreams Magazine which features fabulous weddings from Simcoe & Muskoka regions. I love fall weddings in Muskoka & this September wedding was simply stunning!

It was an intimate wedding with fewer than 50 guests. Cheryl’s mother was the matron of honor & her father was the best man. Ron’s son Ethan who was 6 at the time was the ring bearer & he did a great job! Small weddings are lovely to photograph. You can truly capture so many great moments throughout the the ceremony & reception of the guests enjoying themselves & celebrating with the bride & groom & their families. It is nice and relaxed for the bride & groom as well & they are able to connect with all of their guests throughout the day.

My friend Elizabeth from Eventdecorator.com produced a beautiful wedding & floral design. I love the soft white & chartreuse green colour combination in the bouquets & floral centerpieces combined with the  eggplant linens & silver & pewter accents throughout the table design & décor.

yikes….just as I was getting ready to stash away the winter wardrobe, and we are hit with another cold spell. I would love to have this space heater in my office today, as I sit wrapped up in a warm blanket shivering…

In the end of February I had the opportunity to photograph a lovely couple in Ottawa. We decided to make a short family vacation out of it as well. So, my husband, daughter & I packed up the car & headed for the capital. We were hoping to be able to check out the canal and perhaps lace up some skates, but due to the very mild winter the Rideau canal was only open for just over a week this year. In any case, we had a lovely visit & stayed in the Byward Market, visited with my sister-in-law as well as a great friend & checked out the sites. I went to Carleton University in the mid 90′s & hadn’t been back to Ottawa since, so it was great to be able to visit again.

Richard & Louise are a lovely couple who were married at the Chateau Laurier over ten years ago…this was each of their second marriage. It was a beautiful wedding & reception from what they told me, however they never had photographs. So I am very happy that they finally have some photographs of the two of them! It was such a pleasure photographing Richard & Louise…even though it was fairly chilly that day in downtown Ottawa, we all had a blast. I even got to use my French again!

Most often my portrait clients come to me. Each year we have portrait clients coming from across Canada, the United states & Europe. I am so honoured to photograph their families while they are here in the Simcoe County &  Muskoka regions or visiting Toronto. However, I also love to travel, so let me know if you are thinking of portraits and you are not in our local region, give us a call at the studio & we can see if it is possible to travel to you. Now that my daughter is a bit older, I will be accepting a few destination weddings & portraits again each year.
