Every year I photograph 15 beautiful weddings. I absolutely love documenting weddings. It is so great to meet my client’s families and to capture the story of their day. Since Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my favourite images of mothers captured at weddings.

I first came across these gorgeous black and white photographs of the Kennedy family on Pinterest. I pinned them to my portrait inspiration board. They were originally pinned from the blog miss moss which is a fabulous lifestyle & design blog out of CapeTown, South Africa.

Mark Shaw was a well known fashion & celebrity photographer who photographed for LIFE magazine in the 1950′s & 1960′s. Many of his photographs are available for purchase as limited edition prints from the Andrew Wilder gallery.

Mark Shaw worked extensively as the “unofficial” family photographer to Jackie & John F. Kennedy throughout the 50′s & 60′s. How amazing to have your family documented by the same photographer over the years. I think it is perfect. You will really develop a relationship with your photographer enabling him or her to capture images of your family that are honest, beautiful and real.

As a portrait photographer, I have really loved working with many of my families year after year documenting events & portraits. It is my goal to continue photographing my clients families as they grow and provide them with inspiring images of their lives. I recently started offering lifestyle sessions which are a bit different than my regular portrait sessions with the hope to capture such timeless photographs of unstructured moments that capture the subtleties of daily living for my clients.

I love photographing headshots! They are such fun sessions, and it is always great to connect with other professionals in so many different industries. These days pretty much everyone in any industry needs great headshots to market their professional services and to show their clients who they are. One of our more popular headshot sessions is our lifestyle session. This is a 2 hour session that we can photograph here in the studio, on location or a combination of both studio and a nearby location. For more information on our different headshot sessions, please check out my website. It is great that my studio is located in downtown Barrie so close to the lake. It is so easy to pop out for part of the session and get some great images so close by.

This is Christine March who is a super nice lady who I met at a wedding industry event in Toronto last year and she is dedicated & talented professional wedding planner. Her company is Imprint Wedding Design & Coordination which is located in Toronto. Christine plans weddings in Toronto, Creemore and throughout the GTA. We photographed her headshots early last summer both here in my studio and we took a short walk to capture some more images on the lakefront. I think you can see from these images that Christine is a nice, genuine and friendly person! She is an amazing woman & so much fun! We really hit it off since the moment we met…at the bar ordering beer at our industry event!  How could we not become instant friends! I would highly recommend Christine as your wedding planner. You will love her!

How sweet is this little guy? I LOVE his curls. He was such much fun to photograph & such a little personality. You may remember Jon & Sarah from their wedding that I photographed at the MacLaren Art Centre a couple of summers ago. It was featured in Wedding Dreams Magazine. You can see their feature here. Jon & Sarah have become good friends and I was so honoured to photograph their family portraits. As a wedding and portrait photographer, I really love being able to develop such great relationships with my clients and get to know them and their families over the years. I have several families that I photograph on a regular basis and it brings such happiness & joy to my heart.

Feeling blessed. I have the best job ever!

I love my 2000 square foot loft studio which is located in downtown Barrie. It is really a joy to come here to work every day. My studio is on a corner, so we have windows along two full walls which is simply dreamy. On beautiful days, I photograph here using the amazing natural light but I also have full professional studio lighting equipment as well, so I am well equipped for any type of lighting that we want.

This is my childhood friend, Tanya, and her family. They live in Waterloo now, but came up to visit me one day in the studio to photograph some family portraits. We were neighbours growing up and it was so great to share stories and to reconnect and see how she is doing now.

My studio is very well equipped with a dressing room for my clients. Comfortable seating area and lots of space which is always great for the younger ones to run around. We always like to keep things relaxed and fun during family portrait sessions. The portrait session then becomes a fun family experience for everyone to slow down a bit and enjoy each other’s company.

Welcome to the first post for “From the archives” which is a new post series for  my blog. I will be sharing images from my own personal family archives. The older I get, the more I value the importance of preserving & remembering my family history. I am having so much fun learning about my family history through treasured photographs that I have gathered from my mom and my relatives and through the stories they have shared with me. These beautiful photographs are so lovely to hold in my hand. I am so very thankful for these treasured family keepsakes that have been passed down through the generations.

I love this old family portrait. That is my grandpa Nillo Klementti & my grandma Martta Klementti on the right hand side of the image with their first son, my uncle Olly. I have such fond memories of my grandparents. My grandma lived until she was 100 years old, passing away peacefully shortly after her 100th birthday. Unfortunately, I don’t know who the other people are in this portrait…I’ll have to find out from one of my relatives. Anyway, I look at this image, and I want to know the story of where this was taken. I love the expression on my grandparents faces. I want to share this image with my own daughter and remember where we came from. Our family. My grandparents came over here from Finland, separately, and met in Toronto. They fell in love, eventually moved north to Kirkland Lake so my grandpa could work in the mines and my grandma would stay at home and raise the children. From there, they moved back here to Minessing just outside of Barrie.

Sadly, my great uncle Ilka recently passed away. He was married to my grandma’s sister Hannah. I travelled with my two brothers to the visitation and funeral in Oshawa and spent the day there with my family sharing stories with each other. I also have such fond memories of him and Hanna from growing up and spending time on the lake at their cottage in Muskoka. I loved the sound of his voice, and his great laugh. I will look for some images of Hannah & Ilka and  hope to share more with you here on my blog.
